A personal experience
involving General Manager, Sharon Ogden, has led her to dedicate
this year’s Bridal Expo to encourage awareness of Ovarian
Cancer to young women. In the fall of 2006, her mother was diagnosed
with Ovarian Cancer. She sought out doctors for more than four
months suffering with pain, before she was finally diagnosed,
but by then the cancer had spread and was in an advanced stage.
It was her persistence for medical attention that enabled her
to get the treatment needed. She is now checked every three months
and is still in remission, but the reality is, those with late
stage ovarian cancer have a 25% chance of surviving 5 years. The
delay in diagnosing Ovarian Cancer is very common since there
is no approved screening test. It is their continued fight to
make other women aware of the symptoms and hope for an early screening
tool to be found. Therefore, a portion of proceeds from this event
will be donated to Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Visit www.ocna.org
for more information on ovarian cancer.
